Exit 28. Flowers.

Exit 28. Flowers. Edited by Rosa Olivares with Numerous contributing photographers and writers. Olivares y Asociados, Madrid, 2007. 192 pp., Numerous color and black & white illustrations, 8¼x10¼".

It's been glorious summer outside so I've been a bit lax about posting (that's what happens when you're light-starved).

I've written about Exit magazine before and it's as always worth checking out. If you're not familiar with the magazine you can read more about them and have a look through back issues on their website.

"Perennial favorites for depicting the categories of beauty, joy, order and love, flowers have served poets and lovers, fixated botanists and photographers and inspired artists. Exit presents a veritable swag of images from photographers that have dealt with this subject matter over the course of the last century, including: Araki, Blossfeldt, Fischli und Weiss, Mapplethorpe, Cunningham, Pierson, Samaras, Steichen, Welling, and Warhol."

Anita Elgerot exhibition opening in Montreal

Image of painting courtesy of Anita Elgerot

If you're in Montreal, Canada don't miss Anita Elgerot's exhibition at Galerie Gora!

The opening / private view is tomorrow Tuesday May 6th (my today) between 5pm and 7pm - but if you can't make it then her work is on display until the end of the month.

I hope you haven't missed the fact that her website is now also in English!

Of course this means that besides viewing her remarkable work you non-Swedes can now also read some more about the artist, the thought-process behind her work and check on upcoming exhibitions (amongst other).

Vogue Italia I applaud you

Image from here. Read more here or here for example.

"Now a counterattack to the racism of the fashion industry is coming from an unlikely source: Vogue Italia. The July issue of the fearsomely cutting-edge quarterly will feature black models almost exclusively, shot by the photographer Steven Meisel."

Lets hope this will turn the tide rather than being a "novel" one-off. Either way I'm proud of Italian Vogue for trying to take a first step - and making the fact that they're doing so a normality.
